Wrestling

Zurich has a long wrestling tradition, even if continuity was lacking for decades. Kurt Rusterholz was outstanding; he trained in Zurich after the Second World War, became Swiss champion several times, won bronze at the 1953 World Championships, and participated in the 1960 Olympic Games.

In the 2010s, the Zurich Wrestling Club (ZRC) brought Olympic wrestling back to the city, offering training programs for young people and competitive teams. However, the club later disappeared again, illustrating the difficult continuity of the sport in Zurich.

Today, the Zurich wrestling team is writing the next chapter: it offers wrestling training and competitions in the city and wants to continue the tradition in a stable way – a new opportunity to keep Zurich's wrestling history alive.
